Joey's Faith ... Inspirational Christian poem by Judith Johnson Kypta

Faith is the substance of things hoped for the evidence of things not seen.
Hebrews 11:1

 


THERE HE LAY... A YOUNG BOY
ONLY TEN YEARS OLD AND DYING
WITH A SERIOUS HEART CONDITION 
AND NO HOPE....
THE DOCTORS GAVE UP TRYING.


THE DOCTORS SAID TO GIVE JOEY
ANYTHING HE DESIRED
HAVING TO LAY IN BED EVERYDAY....
THERE WASN’T MUCH THAT HE REQUIRED.


JOEY DID REQUEST ONE THING...
HE ASKED FOR A RADIO.
SAYING IT WOULD KEEP HIM COMPANY AND
HE’D BE SURE TO KEEP THE SOUND SET LOW.


JOEY WAS ALWAYS KEPT IN PRAYER
BUT IT COULD BE SEEN... HE WAS FADING AWAY.
EVERYONE WAS SADDENED AND AWARE
HE COULD LEAVE THIS EARTH.... ANY DAY.


ONE DAY HE TOLD HIS MOM
 "THERE IS A LADY I HEAR ON THE RADIO"
SHE PRAYS FOR PEOPLE TO BE HEALED...
SHE’S IN TOWN... DO YOU THINK WE COULD GO?


HIS MOM FELT THE PLEADING IN HIS VOICE...
AND COULDN’T DESTROY HIS HOPE.
SHE SAID YES SHE WOULD TAKE HIM AND PRAYED...
WITH DISAPPOINTMENT HE COULD COPE.


MOM CARRIED JOEY IN TO THE SERVICE
HE HAD A JOYFUL LOOK ON HIS FACE
HE LISTENED AS KATHRYN KUHLMAN PRAYED....
ASKING GOD FOR HIS HEALING MERCY AND GRACE.


AS JOEY AND HIS MOM LISTENED TO
EVERYTHING THAT TOOK PLACE...
THEY REALIZED GOD STILL ANSWERED PRAYERS...
LOVE SHINED ON EVERY FACE.


WHEN THEY LEFT THAT SERMON
THEIR FAITH WAS SO STRONG AFTER
WHAT THEY SAW....
PEOPLE BEING HEALED... CRIPPLES
ABLE TO WALK, THROWING AWAY
THEIR CRUTCHES, WHEELCHAIRS AND ALL.


MOM TOOK A STEP OF FAITH... SHE
THREW JOEYS’ MEDICINE AWAY
SHE SAID "GOD" WOULD HEAL HER BOY....
SHE KNEW THERE WOULD COME A  DAY.


SHE WOULD CARRY JOEY TO THE SERVICES...
WEEK AFTER WEEK WITHOUT FAIL...
DIDN’T MATTER WHAT THE WEATHER...
SLEET, SNOW OR HAIL.


THEN ONE DAY IT HAPPENED...
THEY WERE SITTING AT SERVICE IN PRAYER
AND KATHRYN SAID GOD SHOWED HER A BOY...
WAS BEING HEALED RIGHT THEN AND THERE.


JOEY SAID TO HIS MOM
 "I FEEL A HEAT ALL OVER ME..."
THE POWER OF GOD WAS ALL OVER HIM
IT WAS PLAIN, FOR THE EYE TO SEE.


JOEY'S LEG, LOST IT’S CURL...
IT  STRAIGHTENED OUT THAT DAY
WHEN HIS MOM TOOK HIM TO BE EXAMINED...
THE DOCTOR DIDN’T KNOW WHAT TO SAY.


JOEY’S HEART WAS "WHOLE"
NOTHING WRONG IN ANY WAY...
HIS CRIPPLED BODY WAS HEALED...
NOW HE COULD RUN AND PLAY.


YOU SEE... THE FAITH OF A LITTLE BOY
WENT A VERY LONG WAY...
SHOWING THAT ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE
IF WE BELIEVE.... WHEN WE PRAY!

JUDITH JOHNSON KYPTA WRITES ABOUT "JOEY'S FAITH:

"This is a true story, about my brother Joey. The poem setting is in the year 1950.

My brother Joey grew into a fine man and a good husband and father of two beautiful children, Renée and Joey Jr.

He gained local fame as a great "south-paw" bowler, having scored two "300" games.... back to back in "Duckpins"!

Joey was working for a construction company in 1971.  There was a terrible accident.  A wall fell on him.  After laying in a coma for 6 weeks, The Lord took him home.

The doctors were amazed....They said they never saw a "heart so strong" on a person that lay in a coma for that long.  God healed that heart when he was ten years old, and it's strength was what kept him living so long in the coma, with everything else that was wrong with him.

Joey was only 31 years old when The Lord decided he was needed in Heaven.  After all, He did grant us an extra 21 years on earth with him.... JJK"
